Illegal colony: Residents move court to save houses on Hindustan Times 17 sep Call -+91-9711033176



A week after the Greater Noida authority demolished an illegal colony in Haibatpur, people living in unauthorised colonies in Gautam Budh Nagar have started moving court to save their houses. Residents of one such illegal colony, New Export Colony in Noida’s Sorkha village, have moved 
court for relief. Local developers illegally sold about 3,000 square metres of land acquired for a state highway project in 1993.




The Noida authority has warned to demolish the colony as it had paid compensation for the same to farmers.
Three years ago, about 300 people had bought plots in the illegal colony. Some of these buyers even started living in this colony developed by some small time developers.
“We have filed a case in the Gautam Budh Nagar district court to save our houses from demolition. The court has asked for a reply from the Noida authority on the issue,” said Suryakant Pandey, a resident who has moved court.
Residents say that why the district administration allowed registry and mutation, when the land was notified for a state highway.
“A probe is on to ascertain how the mutation of a government land took place,” said Rajesh Yadav, sub-divisional magistrate.
It has been revealed that over 30 illegal colonies have been developed in about 25 villages across Gautam Budh Nagar district. Authorities say all the unauthorised colonies will be demolished soon. On September 10, the Greater Noida authority bulldozed an illegal colony in Haibatpur village.
Illegal colonies are thriving in villages such as Sorkha, Shahberi, Jalpura, Haibatpur, Bhanota and Bahlolpur, among others. Before the approval of the Greater Noida Master Plan-2021, developers were selling a 100-square metre plot for R7-9 lakh. But now the rate for a 100-square metre plot has doubled to R14 to 18 lakh.
About 50 builders and real estate dealers are carving out illegal colonies on farmers’ land, acquired government land and flood plains of Yamuna and Hindon. These builders target people, who look for cheap land for their dream homes.
